Tahoe Inn South Lake Tahoe

California hotel help?
I’m about to embark on a road trip around California and need some help on good hotels/motels/inns to stay in along the way.
I’ve already been looking at the regular hotels, most of which are too expensive (my max budget is $100 a night based on 2 adults sharing 1 room) and I’ve checked out the Motel 6 or Super 8 possibilities, which feel a little too basic and don’t get good reviews.
Ideally I’d like to find some nice family run places that are friendly, clean and comfortable. Don’t need room service or other such perks but also don’t want to sleep with cockroaches!
The specific locations I need help with are:
- Bishop/Lee Vining/Yosemite
- South Lake Tahoe
- San Francisco
- Somewhere along Highway 1 (San Simeon/Morro Bay/etc)
- Los Angeles
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
we stayed in the commodore hotel in san francisco, not too expensive pretty central and had no problems with it,
