National Parks Inns And Lodges
Best hostel in Glacier National Park?
I'll be doing a trip to Glacier National Park in August and also plans to spend a couple of nights in a hostel relaxing and doing some sightseeing and hiking easy days. GNP is famous for its historic Great Lodges. Can someone who goes there much to recommend the best. I want one of the historical other in the park (not a modern hotel) the historical flavor that is good, decent rooms, has shops and cafes nearby and is well situated for visiting interesting parts of the park. Ones that I am particularly interested in are the Prince of Wales in Waterton Park, Glacier Park Lodge (East Glacier), Lake McDonald Lodge, Many Glacier Hotel and the Swiftcurrent Motor Inn. I especially like listening to people who have stayed in them.
I am not type NP stay in hostels, but since nobody has answered your question I give you my 2 cents. I like the Santa Maria del Lago, so stay at the Rising Sun. Rooms not much to talk about, but who do the work for me. Although I have not been in any of the historical houses, I have seen them all. They are nostalgic, full of history and probably can stay in, but I remember the El Tovar in GC. Great to be there, but rather crunchy and not exactly a modern hotel if you know what I mean. Kind of like Old Faithful Lodge in Yellowstone. Lake McDonald Lodge is located in a panoramic position, but not the west side of the park is as dramatic as this (my opinion). There are few roads in the area of Lake McDonald, but you'll find more trails in Swiftcurrent Lake (Many Glacier) zone. Iceberg Lake is a good day's walk. The Prince Wales in Waterton Park is located on a cliff with breathtaking views of both the upper and middle lakes Waterton. I have not made any excursion can not comment on trails. If you enjoy canoeing rowing in the U.S. in the south end of Waterton Lake superior. If the GNP has not been before, make sure to hike up to Lake Hidden track over Logan Pass. It is a short walk to the overlook with a great result, rationally. The trail continues to the lake, if they want. The path Highline part of Logan Pass is a great day hike, but be sure to check the shuttle bus schedule to make sure they can return to your car since the end of ride the loop. When I think of the grizzly country GNP. You may want to consider holding a can of bear spray or bear bells, at least. Especially if you're going to be hiking alone. If you're flying in Montana, you can not pack the bear spray. You'll have to buy there. Mountain lions also roam the park so you need to keep in the back of your mind too, do not forget your passport – you'll need to re-enter the U.S.. I hope you have a good trip. After of are links to reviews of the lodges.
