Inn New York City
Avid public transportation users in new york, need assistance..?
hello!
I will be flying to New York in 2 weeks and here is my schedule:
Leave San Diego at 10:30, Arrive in New York JFK AIRPORT about 6:45 am.
I do NOT want to pay $50 for a taxi (the hotel is already killing me! lol) And I hear that it is easy to use the public transportation out there.
Can you tell me what subway trains, airtrains, or busses I need to take in order to get to LONG ISLAND CITY from JFK? (Holiday Inn Long Island City Manhattan View to be exact) I can take a taxi from the last bus/subway drop off, I just need to get as close as possible.
Thanks a million!
From JFK, take the AirTrain (fare $5.00) to Jamaica (not Howard Beach).
From there exit the AirTrain (right before the turnstiles are vending machines from which you should purchase a $7.00 MetroCard [$5.00 for the AirTrain with $2.00 for the subway]).
After you exit the AirTrain turnstiles, follow the signs to the Long Island Railroad (LIRR). Make a lfet into the waiting area and go across to the elevators on the other side. Take any elevator down to the subway level. Use the MetroCard you purchased earlier (which should still have $2.00 on it) and enter the subway turnstiles. From there follow the signs to the E train (letter in blue circle). Take a Manhattan bound E to the Queens Plaza station. Exit to the street (use the exit marked “Northern Blvd” and walk 3 blocks under the elevated train structure to 39th Avenue, make a left and walk 1 block to 29th Street.
Note: this is a direct, one subway train route to the hotel. This way you don’t have to take 3 subway trains, navigate all those escalators/elevators and steps that would involved with taking the E and then the 7 and then the N/W. It is easier to walk the short distance from Queens Plaza.
