Holiday Inn Hotels Careers

!!!!How old do you have to be to stay in a hotel on your own?

I believe its at owners discretion and after trailing through numberous T&C’s of well known hotel brands e.g. Hilton, Premier Inn,Express by Holiday inn… I have come across no mention of a minimum age, just that 14 year olds should be accompanied by an adult at all times.
I’m just curious as I have been offered a place on a course in London for five days in a couple of weeks and am 17. Previous courses by the same company have put people up in a hotel but have also specified if you are under 18 (I have no got the full details yet as I have only been offered the place today) you have to stay in the hotel with a parent, there is no way my parents would come with me as they think of me as an adult and there is no way I would turn upto something that I see as the start of my career with a guardian, is it completely ridiculous or is it just me?

The reason for being 18 or over is for damages you may cause. At 17 the hotel would have a problem recouping any losses. Doubtful you will be staying in any of the more well known establishments unless someone offers up their credit card for the payment. This way they could charge damages to the card.
