Do not go to Portland, Maine. I lived there for 3 months and is a haven for criminals and pedophiles. It's disgusting. But if you must go. If you Greyhound is taking when you get off the bus, just across the street is a nice hotel called the Inn at San Juan. I think it's like $ 80 a night and then pay a deposit. Give it back to you if you do not smoke in the room. As for whale watching can take a taxi to the old port there (like $ 6 and there are tours you can get within 15 or dollars. I was bored the whole time I was there, so I can not suggest anything fun to do. The whole city shuts down as the 9 pm, so if you're looking for things of the night, good luck.
