First, you must have a routine for your Terrier to keep updated. To be really successful in housetraining, you must have a schedule to take your terrier outside toilet and, for weeks or months, which is rooted in their daily lives.

Most people want to go to the bathroom right after waking up. Your Yorkie is no different and this is where the routine starts. As soon as you get up in the morning, take him outside of his trip to the bathroom first day. He has been celebrating all night and had to leave quickly, without interruptions or distractions.

Make this a short trip to the bathroom. Let your Yorkshire Terrier to do its job and then come back for breakfast. What to eat while preparing for his day. By the time you are dressed and have eaten your breakfast, it's time to take your Yorkie toilet again.

Hopefully your Yorkie food and water is established enough that he's ready to go back and do it again. Your Yorkshire Terrier puppy needs to go to bathroom breaks at midmorning and afternoon. If your work or school you away from the house during the day, then you need a friend or family member to maintain the routine.

Your Yorkie will need to be removed again as soon as you return home. Once again, a schedule or routing should be followed consistently. May be useful for maintaining a table of daylight hours for potty breaks. These can be adjusted gradually as taking note of the patterns of elimination your puppy's natural.

Feed your Yorkie dinner at the same time every evening, in time for feeding settled enough to have a successful potty break before getting out of bed at night. And in the morning, the whole routine starts again, keeping to the same schedule.

Potty trips should be short (ten to 15 minutes maximum), low input, and do not let your Yorkie confuse these breaks with playing time. Give your Yorkshire Terrier to much praise and affection when it does its business. Verbal praise and a treat work well for this purpose, and reinforce his good bathroom.

At one time, negative reinforcement was the rule. If your dog had an accident at home, was reprimanded and punished. This has proved less effective than positive reinforcement. Praising good behavior works because your Yorkshire Terrier wants to be loved and to please you. If you are late and find an accident, just go right to your normal routine.

After taking your Yorkie on their break with potty you can clean up the mess, without fanfare. It is best if your dog did not even see it. They just let it go and do better tomorrow.

Your Yorkshire Terrier depends on you for almost everything. One of the most important is a firm base of toilet training, which is only possible by following a routine from the beginning, and will result Yorkie in a happy and a happy owner.
