Are hotels in Juarez, Mexico secure?

Ok, so my boyfriend and I need to go to the American Consulate in Cuidad, Juarez next month for an appointment and we will need to stay at least three days. I have heard about the violence down there however I am pretty sure the hotel areas are safe. The hotel prices at the Holiday Inn are much lower in Juarez;sometimes even by half!.Or should I just pay an extra 50 dollars a night in El Paso just to be on the safe side?

The hotels are basically safe most of the time, I always stay at the Ramada at Lincoln ave, the area surrounding the consulate is safe enough.

One thing I can tell you; I visit Juarez at least once a month and usually stay for 3 or 4 days, i have been doing those visits for 3 years now, and I work visiting a lot of the manufacturing plants, that means I wonder around the city streets all the time I´m there, in all of that time I have never came across face to face with any gun shooting, I have seen the yellow tape that police use to mark a crime scene twice also I have herd the police sirens running to a crime scene very often. most of the crime that is happening comes to my attention after I watch the local news ( at least 5 to 10 victims to violent crimes every day).

What Juarez is living right now is a tense calm. the city dies at dawn, no body goes out, there are almost no bars or night life any more in the city.

So you can stay in Juarez, but I recommend you not to go out at night, stay in the hotel and try to keep your activities at day time.
