Bed And Breakfast Helen Ga.
From the mountains of North Georgia is a type of holiday that few think to do these days, is called the tour. Highroads South Trail is one such holiday driving. Located in the southern Appalachians is a route through 13 counties and 4 states (including Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina). It is a collaboration of all chambers of commerce, state boards of tourism, and retailers in this area.
Through a map of the region (available upon request a brochure) road trip unfolds before you can pick and choose where you want to go. Along the route is housing (including rental of the cabin, bed & breakfast inns and motels), restaurants, shops, attractions, museums, state parks, hiking trails, whitewater rafting adventures, and kayaking. The beauty of this type Holiday is its ability to be spontaneous but still maintain a route.
What should I expect to see in the South Highroads Way? Take a look:
The gateway to the Alpine Route is Helen, located in Helen, GA and a re-creation of an old German city. As expected, show a fun Oktoberfest loving each year (Walhalla South Carolina also does so, and is also on the way). Although not in the month of October, Helen has a lot of good restaurants and shops to experience and some family fun activities.
Blue Ridge, GA is well known for it's beautiful region … but did you know about the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway? You can pull your car over and let someone take you on a train on the historic Marietta Georgia Northern Railline. The trip takes about 3 hours, but stops at the center of the picturesque town of McCaysville, GA.
If the lake is your thing, you can always travel along the Blue Ridge Lake and Lake Chatuge. Throughout Lake Chatuge is the resource Ridges & Club, a luxury resort in Hiawasee, GA. It has 5 restaurants, golf courses, walking trails, marinas, and more. Spending a few days there and head back on the road for their next destination.
If rafting is your thing, there are many opportunities to do Trail in South Highroads including Ocoee River in Tennessee, the Chattooga River in Georgia and South Carolina Nantahala. To begin your adventure of whitewater rafting, see the website or brochure to see where these places are located along your route.
For a bit of downtime, visit the many wineries or vineyards along the way … or you could make a whole adventure Southern Highroads an event of wine tasting (do not worry, there's plenty of accommodation close to the vineyards!). You could start in Georgia in the vineyards of Habersham Vineyards and Crane Creek and then head to North Carolina to visit the River Valley vineyards in the county Cherokee and visit a winery called micro cell picturesque wineries are also located in Cherokee County.
I have only scratched the surface the whole of southern Highroad Trails Pool. There is horseback riding, hiking trails, antiques, farm tourism (such as farms and orchards), marinas, fishing and golf. And all along the road so no matter where you start and where it ends, there is something to do along the way.
For more information, visit Highroads El Camino South on its website (http://www.southernhighroads.org) and from there to request a brochure for driving holiday started!
